What the course covers
Maintaining a safe and trusted educational environment relies on clear professional boundaries between adults and pupils. This course provides comprehensive guidance on defining, recognising, and managing professional conduct across all teaching, support, and residential roles in independent schools, fully aligned with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
Learners will examine what constitutes a "low-level concern"—any behavior by an adult that does not meet the threshold of a formal allegation, but causes unease, doubts professional judgement, or breaches the staff code of conduct. The module explores digital boundaries (such as social media use, personal messaging, and online gaming with pupils), physical boundaries, favoritism, and off-site interactions.
By completing this course, all staff members will understand how to foster an open culture where reporting a low-level concern is welcomed and non-punitive, ensuring that small issues are addressed before they escalate into serious safeguarding risks.
What your team takes away
- Understand clear professional boundaries in academic, pastoral, and digital environments.
- Recognise and define low-level concerns versus formal allegations of abuse.
- Follow correct, transparent internal reporting procedures for recording minor behavioral anomalies.
- Contribute to a supportive, open-culture workplace that protects both pupils and staff.
How it runs
The course opens in a browser on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, with nothing to install. Progress is saved as it goes, so someone can stop and pick it back up. The assessment sits at the end, and passing it issues a certificate with its own reference number that an inspector or an auditor can check.
Who it is for
All teaching staff, support staff, administrative personnel, residential teams, governors, and senior leaders in independent schools.
