Outdoor Learning and Forest School in the Early Years

What the course covers

This course explores how outdoor learning and Forest School approaches support every area of a child’s development.

• Learners look at how nature based play builds confidence, resilience, physical skill and curiosity, and at the adult’s part in making that happen safely.
• Practical sections cover planning an outdoor session, assessing risk proportionately so children are still allowed to climb and explore, and using what a setting already has rather than what it would have to buy.
• Weather, clothing, supervision ratios and recording are all covered.

How it runs

The course opens in a browser on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, with nothing to install. Progress is saved as it goes, so someone can stop and pick it back up. The assessment sits at the end, and passing it issues a certificate with its own reference number that an inspector or an auditor can check.
