KCSIE 2026 for Independent School Staff

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 came into force on 1 September 2026. This course takes every member of staff in an independent secondary school through Part one of the guidance and the changes that matter most, using situations you will recognise from classrooms, boarding houses, trips and fixtures.

What the course covers

It supports, and does not replace, your school's own child protection policy, your induction and your own reading of Part one in full.

The course is made up of these lessons:

  • Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility
  • What changed on 1 September 2026
  • Recognising abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • Child on child abuse, including harassment and violence
  • Online safety, AI and mobile phones
  • Specific risks and legal duties
  • When a child tells you
  • Concerns about adults
  • Safeguarding in the independent school context
  • Bringing it together

What your team takes away

  • Understand personal statutory obligations under KCSIE 2026 Part One. Identify emerging safeguarding risks, including AI-generated harms and prejudice-based discrimination. Recognise warning signs related to mental health concerns, peer conflict, and child-on-child abuse. Follow correct internal reporting procedures, low-level concern logs, and information-sharing protocols.

How it runs

The course opens in a browser on a phone, a tablet or a desktop, with nothing to install. Progress is saved as it goes, so someone can stop and pick it back up. The assessment sits at the end, and passing it issues a certificate with its own reference number that an inspector or an auditor can check.

Who it is for

All teaching staff, support staff, administrative personnel, residential teams, governors, and proprietors in independent schools.
